The 2026 Lunar Year

Updated: Jan 13

Hello Goddess!

In just five weeks, the Moon will begin a new cycle. A new invitation to remember time as sacred, cyclical, and alive.

Depending on which doorway you step through, the “New Year” arrives more than once:

  • The Gregorian New Year greets us on January 1.

  • The Lunar New Year arrives with the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice, usually in late January or February.

  • The Astrological New Year blooms on March 21, when the Sun enters Aries and life begins again at the Spring Equinox.

In 2026, the Moons arrival on Tuesday February 17th, welcomes in The Year of the Wood Horse, a spirited force of movement, growth, and untamed momentum. This is not a year for standing still goddess!

Lunar Highlights of 2026

This year is rich with celestial initiations — eclipses, supermoons, and rare lunar moments that act as portals.

  • January opens with a Full Moon, illuminating the year before it fully begins

  • February 17 - Lunar New Year + Solar Eclipse. A powerful reset.

  • March 3 - Lunar Eclipse - Emotional truths rise; shadows speak.

  • May 31 - Blue Moon A rare second Full Moon in one month, magic amplified.

  • August 12 - New Moon + Total Solar EclipseA profound dark womb moment for planting long-term intentions.

  • August 27–28 - Lunar Eclipse Closure, revelation, and karmic release.

  • December 23 - Super MoonThe Moon at her closest, brightest, and most influential, a luminous farewell to the year.

🌑 Moon Phases & Her Magic

The Moon is not passive light or energy source. She is a teacher, a mirror, and a timekeeper. Each phase carries its own spell work + should be honored.

  • New Moon & Waxing Moon 🌱 Intention setting, visioning, beginning new cycles

  • Full Moon 🔮 Manifesting, charging tools, amplifying energy, celebration

  • Waning Moon & Dark Moon🍂 Releasing, banishing, breaking habits, rest, surrender

  • Blue Moon✨ The second Full Moon in one month. She's rare, potent, and ideal for advanced manifestation or deep ritual work.

The Lunar New Year

Traditionally, the Lunar calendar begins with the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice, which in 2026 falls on February 17. This moment marks the Moon’s New Year.

The weeks leading up to the New Moon on 02/17 still belong to the Snake, who is nearing her final exhale + shed. Wise, watchful, and deeply transformative, this Is a liminal time where she Is shedding her last skin. Releasing identities, habits, and patterns that can no longer travel forward. This is their end.

The remaining lunar cycles invite us into the same medicine: to slow down, to listen, to loosen what has grown too tight.Nothing is forced here. The shedding happens naturally, precisely when it is ready.

As the New Moon rises on February 17th, the Snake will slip quietly into the shadows, creating the path for the Wood Horse to blaze down. The energy of the Wood Horse carries movement, momentum, and the courage to leap before overthinking.

The more you shed now, the lighter you will become, and the faster you can run.

For this reason, the Moon cycles prior to February 17 are included as an honorable mention and a sacred in-between space. They offer time for reflection, energetic clearing, and conscious closure before the year truly turns.

The Lunar calendar is not merely a schedule, it is cyclical. A remembering that rebirth always follows release.
